Hardy Demon Saltwater Fly Rod 9' 8wt New (other)w/Orvis Hydros Saltwater All-Rounder Line (New in box). Before I get into the rod, let me classify New (other). On the off chance you've been on the space station or off planet, Covid shutdown mine and most everyone's travel plans last year. As such, this rod has never been fished; it has been lawn cast a handful of times, but it's never touched water - either fresh or salt. In my mind, never having touched water makes it no different than a rod in any fly shop that's been on the rod rack.
The rod is a lovely shade of blue and since thats my favorite color, I'm partial to the rod. I would characterize the rod as fast with tons of feel. That's a great combination, because usually fast rods have almost no feel. Whether youre new to fly fishing or done it for years, a rod with feel makes a difference, because if you can't feel the rod load then you're not going to cast very well.
Unless you have very large hands, the grip is terriffic and the quality of the cork is quite nice. I've owned a bunch of Hardy rods, and hands down this is the nicest one I've ever seen. After trying a few different line, I ended up paring the rod with Orvis Hydros Saltwater All-Rounder. I had it spooled up on another of my reels and found the balance worked well. The line in the picture is new, never been opened or used.In case you're curious, here's the background on the rod. I pulled the text from Trident Fly Fishing's website (which I'm sure they got from Hardy), so if you want a matching reel see them. Personally, Id recommend a Lamson Liquid 3.5 as that's the reel I was using for lawn casting and it paired well. SINTRIX 330 Silica Nano Matrix Technology.
SINTRIX 330 is a complicated technology. Basically, Silica Nano Matrix Tech is a flashy way of saying the blank of the Demon Salt is stronger than traditional carbon fiber. In fact, SINTRIX 330 contributes to a rod blank with a 30% increase in comprehensive rod strength over traditional carbon fiber rods. And that strength is reflected in the easy loading capabilities, high recovery speeds, effortless balance, and lightweight design of the Hardy Demon Salt. The stripping guides on the Demon Salt provide saltwater protection and low friction performance. Fuji stripping guides are used by many fly rod manufacturers because of their strong, lightweight design. Similarly, hard chrome snake guides add functionality and durability to the Demon Salt.
Snake guides are industry-accepted and time-proven. Silver Anodized Aluminum w/Uplocking Component.
Bar stock 6061 aluminum with an alloy insert make the reel seat of the Demon Salt virtually weatherproof. No need to worry about corrosion or wear. A double uplocking component holds large saltwater reels in place during days on the water. The Demon Salt comes in a classic black aluminum Hardy rod tube.
These tubes are ultra-durable and super stylish for functionality and purpose. Feel free to ask me any questions and thanks for looking.
